Rersearch and planning- Evaluation question 4- How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

I used blogger to put all my work safely so that it does not get lost, I also used it to insert my I show u videos, my audience feedback and all of my research and planning work, what I have learn from this is to keep on track with work, to finish all work that is there and how to embed and upload work on to it.

This is the camcorder that I sed to film our horror genre trailer and I sed it most of the time since Iam the cinematography and editing person. From this ihave learnt how to use my own cassette and film, how to zoom in and out on the camcorder and to import the filming on to the computer using the camcorder.

This is Facebook which sed to get all my social networking feedback, to get a facebook account you will have to sign up and use it that way, What you do is post your comment about your work that you want people to comment on and then add the images and send it then within a few hours you will have people commenting on your post, which then you can take screengrabs and add to blogger.

 This is word it out, I have used this website to be able to coime up with some words related to my horror genre trailer and also I came up with coverlines for my magazine, this is something that anyone can use foir any work as it is a really good website.

This is the garageband software to make your own music for any thing you want, I have used this to do my sound test for the horror genre trailer however my partner is going to use this to come up with sounds for the trailer because she has the role of sound.

This is imovie I have used this software to edit the entire filming that we did of our horror genre trailer as I have took the role of editing. On this software I am able to change the text type that I want to chose, I can add editing transitions, I can crop out sections to zoom in and out, I can also make things become light and dark, this is a really good software to make a film or a trailer.

This is Internet Explorere I have used this mostly only to research for my research and planning, such as production and distribution company's also to get images of posters and magazines for analysis and other work related to find out a font style and websites for fonts.

This is Ishowu and I have used this to do some of my evaluation questions and also I have mostly used it to do all my podcasts such as the September podcast, October,November, December and lastly the Jauary podacst. All you do is talk through your work with the keys on and the microfone and keep the preview on of Ishowu so that people are able to see the work you are showing them.

This is the Photoshop software that I used to do my photoshop challenge in AS and A2 also I used this to also create the poster at the beginning of this year and lastly I used this to create my horror genre poster, magazine cover. On this I used many tools to be creative with my poster and magazine.

This is the Powerpoint software I used for 'The Pitch' task at the beginning of A2. All Powerpoint work has to be browsed on slideshare so that it comes up in slides on blogger also I will be using this for Evaluation question 1.

I used Prezi to create a publication plan for my horror genre trailer, to use Prezi you need to create yourself an account and sign up everytime you go on it, it's a very unique website where it allows you to enjo what you have crreated as it's a moving website which you can create your own path for it to9 follow and move.Also you can use this to do any work of your own or even make your own presentation.

This is the slideshare website that I used to upload my powerpoint software work as to put work on blogger which is using powerpoint you need slideshare to be able to put it on blogger as this the best way to see it on blogger.

This is the SLR camera that I used to take my makeup test shots and cinematography test shots for the horror genre trailer and the poster and magazine. This camera is really good as it allows us to get very clear photos that we are taking, it lets us zoom in and out, you can keep it on different lens and make it close up, portrait and also add flash or not on to it. It has everything.

This is the tripod that I used during the process of filming we need this to film perfectly as when it is done hand held we get shaking during filming so it's better to use tripod to get the perfect filming. 

I used Youtube to upload all my podcasts and my footage of the horror genre trailer because using the mac computers was taking quite a lot of time so what I did was sign up on youtube upload my podcasts and embed it on the blogger and it only takes 5 minutes to do.

This is the image capture sofware that I have used to upload all my makeup test shots and other photo's also I used this for my feedback forms as I had to take shots of those and upload on to blogger to be able to use them to change anything on poster, magazine or trailer.

Lastly this is the Mac computer thati used to do everything suh as my research and planning, the creation of my poster and magazine using photoshop, editing, doing all the podcasts, researching on the internet, going on different websites such as Dafont, poll junkie, prezi, flickr and lastly youtube. I also used this to go on the garage band software to do dmy sound test.

Poster-

Before

• there was no background on the poster
• steel tongs font too big
• there is less of steel tongs font, need more
• These are from the teachers feedback
• the logos are too big on a poster

After

• now it has a background
• it has two actors on the poster
• it uses gradient and a bit of colour balance
• The font is different comparing to what I made before

Magazine

before

• On screen font was not normal for a magazine
• there was no colour as there was a problem.
• font sizes and style were too big and style was very different to what you see on a normal magazine.
• cover lines were all placed on the left hand side going down.
• there was no slug line, barcode or issue date.

After

• I was able to get the colour back on the magazine
• the colours that I have used are red, black, white and a blue tinge sort of colour
• On screen font has changed
• I copied the layout of an empire magazine
• I have included everything on the magazine that you normally have.

Trailer
before

• it was too light because we filmed in the afternoon around 1.00pm
• scream was delayed
• some shots were very long
• font style titles were not very good to use for our trailer
• production and distribution logos were very big and zoomed in couldn't see all of it.
• we were not suppose to show the villain's face
• needed to add sound as there was no sound.

after

• did filming in dark so it was mostly low key lighting
• added a different font style
• added some sounds of our own that we created and used some from garage band
• changed shots to make them short
• changed scream so that it was not delayed and now it is perfect
• hid our villains face to create suspense and make the whole trailer

Poster

-Cinematography

• Why have I used the shots that I have used such as mid-shot, long shot and wide shot.
• why are my actors wearing these types of clothes (talk about hero/villain) who is good and how can you tell, same with who is bad and how I can tell that.
• why have I used black, red and white on my poster
• The font style and size used- why? Bell MT and steel tongs.
• Is it consistent with the trailer and magazine and how I can tell
• Talking about the dark and light affect, dark to give it that  creepy effect and light to be able to show how they are feeling and also the differences of the protagonists and antagonists.
• Talk about the logos, why have I chosen this name for the production and the distribution. show the trailer and also talk about the consistency of the poster, magazine and the trailer.

-Editing

• What software and tools used
• Magnetic lasso tool to cut out the images on the poster
• colour balance to add in that blue tinge on faith and also on the poster to demonstrate light and darkness.
• mostly used text tool for the writing and changed the colour of the text to fix in with the colour scheme of the poster.
• Used the Photoshop software to edit the whole of the unforeseen poster.

Magazine

-Cinematography

• I used the cinematography shot which is the mid shot, to show the ghosts facial expressions, face makeup and the costume that she is wearing.
• I have used an empire magazine layout which is called 'The Hobbit'.
• The colours that I have used seem to be a bit similar to the empire magazine as it uses blue, red, black and white, however it is a bit different in colour.

-Editing

• I have used the Photoshop software for this production as well and used many other similar tools like the text tool, magnetic lasso tool to cut the photos out and the shape tool for some of the rectangles that I have used on the cover of the magazine.
• the continuity is with the colour scheme and also the title of the trailer the poster and the magazine are the same, this shows consistency.
• The font sizes and style are pretty similar in size for the magazine and the trailer and poster also the actor image used on the poster and magazine and the trailer are all the same person which is Berlin.
• The things that I have added are:
• issue date
• masthead
• barcode
• cover lines- why have I chosen these cover lines? Because they re all related to film
• website- what the website is?
• price- what the price is?
• slug line

Trailer

• Talk about the consistency of the logos, they are in the poster and in the trailer
• For the trailer I have used the iMovie software to do the editing and transitions and also adding sound which my partner Berlin did.
• Locations- places were I have done the filming and my locations like college and Hyde park.
• why have we used these costumes and props in our trailer, I will talk about the hero and villain in this bit like the protagonist and the antagonist.
• I have used mostly low key lighting to put the dramatic and intimidating feeling on our target audience, this is another way of creating suspense.
• The cinematography shots that I have used on our trailer are pans, close up, mid shot, over the shoulder, high angle, long shot, wide shot and zooming in and out.
• the sounds that we have used is to create suspense and make the trailer seem interesting, my partner has added some really good sounds on the trailer which I have helped her with. We have used some sounds of our own and some from Garage band software.
• some of the editing transitions we have used are fades, straight cuts adding text and also sound, I used some cropping on some shots to make them small and also to hide the backgrounds that are not needed.

This is another progress of my poster that I have changed to make it look even better and also because some of my feedback that I got from my teacher and class suggested that I change font sizes and add a background.

Research and planning- Codes and conventions of a film magazine

The codes and conventions of a film magazine are:

The type of shot that is used on the front cover of a film magazine are mainly close up.

Only three/ four colours maximum are used on the front cover to maintain the simplicity of the magazine.

 

Along the top of the front cover, additional information that could determine that the audience will buy this magazine is featured. E.g. free posters, entry into competitions and so on.

Like any magazine, they feature a big, bold, eye catching mast head at the top of the page.

The maga zine needs a bar code, price and coverlines to give an idea of what the magazine is about.

 

Research and planning- Codes and conventions of a film poster

The codes and conventions of a film poster is the:

Written language:
To be able to tell what the poster is trying to reveal or say to the audience . for example the names that go across the top of the poster are examples of celebrities that are in the specific film, so by doing this people may be more attracted to watch the film as they may have there favorite celebrity.

Lighting: 
The lighting depends on the specific genre of the film, if it's a horror then it will always be low key lighting, if it is romance then you will get some colours related to love or romance and if its a comedy then you will get  bright colours to make it look interesting.

Typography:
The typography is when something is coloured it emphasises the words and gives you a brief idea of what the sentence is telling you.

Images:
The images are set in a cinematography shot where it is either a close up, mid-shot, long shot, wide shot.

Narrative:
The narrative tells the story of what the film is about such as the words or sentences on the film poster.

Colours:
The colours represent the type of genre it is so if its horror you will probably see black, red and white where as if it's comedy maybe orange, yellow and light green colours.

Layout:
The layout is mainly a big photo or image, tagline at the top, production and distributions logo, the cast crew and the release dates of the film.

I had to change my distribution logo size due to it being too big and it shows it too big at the beginning of the trailer so I changed the font size and made it smaller so that it fits the screen.

Research and planning- Experimenting on sound

Here I have been experimenting sounds using wine glasses filled with water at different levels, I did this with my trailer partner Berlin who is in charge of sound.
